Apollonian

A term used by nineteenth century German philosopher and critic Friedrich Nietzsche to describe the rationality and control in a work of art. The term is akin to classicism and opposed to dionysian principles, or romanticism. Nietzsche further saw Greek tragedy as the product of the tension between the Apollonian and Dionysian.
